Jim Reitz began a new chapter in his ministerial career as senior pastor at Chatham Presbyterian Church beginning April 1, 2014. Jim believes “together we worship God in joy and celebration, care for each other in the difficult moments, laugh and dance with each other in the celebrations of life, and seek to earnestly deepen our love and devotion to God.” Church is a place where all are welcome and all belong. We are big family that seeks to grow closer to God and to one another.
Jim has served as pastor to churches in Louisville, KY; Lafayette, LA; Orchard Park, NY; and most recently in Mechanicsburg, PA. Throughout his life and ministry hands-on mission has been a key part of his spiritual life. Previously, with his congregations, he worked actively in Florida’s Hurricane Andrew clean-up; made 12 trips to Mississippi and Louisiana following Hurricane Katrina; worked following floods in Iowa and New York; and assisted with recovery in New Jersey’s Hurricane Sandy. In addition, Jim has led mission trips to South African working at an orphanage and with Sizanani, a food distribution program; worked locally to assist with a Mobile Mission to provide clothes, food and warm drinks to the homeless; and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in various locations.
A few of Jim’s passions and hobbies include music (having played trumpet in a Big Band), woodworking (working in construction for a number of years), golf (though most would not know that from his game), and reading. Jim has been married to his wife JoAnn for over 35 years, and are the proud parents of two wonderful, adult children, Phillip and Jenna. Jim and JoAnn reside in Chatham with their cat, Lily.
